Our Story

Discover the Heart of Veranda

Veranda Design (Veranda for Green Solutions) is a Palestinian eco design agency founded in Gaza by architect Suzan Attallah and management specialist Qamar Attallah. Veranda designs rooftop gardens, hydroponic farming systems, inclusive playgrounds, and eco-educational spaces that turn neglected urban areas into productive green ecosystems. The team has transformed more than 40 rooftops, built 8 inclusive playgrounds, and supported over 100 families across Gaza.

OUR JOURNEY

From a Rooftop Whisper to a Movement

Veranda Design team building a shaded community structure on-site in Gaza

2014

The Rooftop Whisper

It started with a whisper on a rooftop in Gaza — Suzan stood watching the sky, imagining a neglected space could become something alive. What if agriculture became possible even in the most crowded places? That dream became Veranda Design, founded by sisters Suzan and Qamar Attallah in 2014.

2014 – 2016

From Vision to Movement

What began as a single green space grew into a movement — expanding from rooftop gardens into community-wide projects, and proving that sustainability isn’t a luxury, it’s a human right.

2016 – 2020

The Breakthrough

“It was like I was back on my grandfather’s land,” an elderly client wept at her first garden. Suzan realized this was healing, not just design — for many women, caring for their plants became their only daily moment of peace. Between 2016 and 2020, they transformed 40+ rooftops across Gaza.

Today

Displaced, Not Defeated

Now displaced as refugees themselves, Suzan and Qamar carry a vision to return to Gaza and help regenerate the very communities they come from.

Suzan Attallah

Suzan Attallah

Co-Founder & Architect

Architect and green economy expert. Her journey began in architecture school, where she learned to see buildings not as mere structures but as living organisms that must breathe — but it was her childhood in Gaza that taught her the patience no classroom could. “Each person knows their home better than we do,” she says. “We listen, paint, and plant together.”
