DEAF SCHOOL ECO-GARDEN
Project Story

Story Description: The Deaf School in Tel al-Hawa lacked interactive educational spaces that could engage students’ visual and environmental senses effectively. This innovative circular eco-garden project transformed that reality by creating a sensory-rich learning environment where students could connect with nature through hands-on gardening experiences. The garden became far more than a green space-it evolved into a dynamic classroom where environmental education merged seamlessly with sign language communication.
Students began creating their own plant-related signs and incorporating them into their daily learning, demonstrating remarkable ownership and creativity. Teacher Hala witnessed this transformation firsthand, noting, “For the first time, the environment speaks their language. They feel seen, understood, and empowered.” Implemented in 2023 with GIZ funding, this project serves as a replicable model for schools serving students with disabilities, proving that when environments harmonize with diverse communication needs, learning becomes tangible, vibrant, and beautiful.
