Project Story

Story Description: Children with disabilities in Gaza faced systematic exclusion from safe, equitable educational and recreational spaces, denying them fundamental rights to play and learn. This comprehensive rehabilitation project addressed this injustice by creating inclusive Playgrounds and schools that accommodate children’s diverse physical and sensory needs across eight locations. The impact extended beyond accessibility improvements-teachers began utilizing the gardens as alternative learning spaces, significantly enhancing student engagement and responsiveness. The project’s success is powerfully illustrated through Samer’s experience watching his daughter’s transformation: “She used to sit and watch others play. Today, she ran and laughed like any other child.” Implemented in 2022 with funding from Global Affairs Canada and executed by Humanity & Inclusion, this initiative proves that inclusive design isn’t a luxury-it’s a fundamental right that creates opportunities for everyone to thrive in just, accessible environments.
